1940's short story: "Death Desert" by Robert Moore Williams
Thanks to the industrious folks at the Internet Archive, you can read online or download “Death Desert,” a short story penned by well-known science fiction writer Robert Moore Williams and illustrated by less well-known pulp artist Robert Fuqua, as it was originally published in the November 1941 issue of Amazing Stories magazine.
